Koalas
Scientific Name: Phascolarctos cinereus
Facts:
  • Mammals
  • Herbivores
  • Average lifespan 20 years
  • Weight 20 lbs
When a female Koala gives birth she carries her baby in a pouch for about six months, the infant is old enought is rides on its mothers back and goes everywhere with her until it is about one year old. Koalas live in Eastern Australia where they feed off eucalyptus trees, they sometimes sleep on these trees for up to 18 hours. Each animal eats about two and a half pounds of eucalyptus leaves per day. These animals were mostly hunted during 1920s and 1930s which  made their population smaller. Koalas need about a hundred trees per animal which causes a problem when Austrailias woods keep shrinking. Koalas are one of my favorite woodland animals.Image result for koalasImage result for koalas
